FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most from homeowners and contractors. Don't see yours?
Reach out and we'll get you a straight answer.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We're a fully licensed electrical contractor (CSLB #1106812) and carry the insurance required to work on residential and commercial properties.

What areas do you serve?

Santa Cruz County and the South Bay — Felton, Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, Ben Lomond, Boulder Creek, Capitola, Aptos, Soquel, Watsonville and the surrounding area. If you're just outside that, call and ask.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes, on any job beyond a standard service call. Standard service calls are quoted before any work begins, so you always know the cost up front.

Do I need a permit for my electrical work?

Panel upgrades, service changes, rewires and most new circuits require one. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and see it signed off — you don't handle any of that.

Do you work with homeowners and contractors?

Both. Homeowners are the bulk of the work, and we subcontract for general contractors on new builds and remodels.

Do you offer emergency or same-day service?

We fit urgent work in wherever the schedule allows and will tell you honestly when the soonest slot is. If it's a genuine hazard — burning smell, sparking, water on a panel — shut the breaker off and call.

Do I need to be home during the work?

For the walkthrough and the estimate, yes. For the work itself, only if access requires it. We'll agree that in advance.

Can you install an EV charger?

Yes — that includes checking whether your existing panel has the capacity, which is the part that most often decides the real cost of the job.

What if the scope of the job changes once you start?

Opening a wall sometimes finds something nobody could have quoted for. We stop, show you what we found, and agree the change before continuing. No surprise line items.

How do I get started?

Call or text (831) 900-8254, or email chaz@schuckelectric.com with a short description of the project. Photos help.
